  • Arroyo Laguna, California: August 8-10, 2008:

10m Nemesis HP 2009 kite has been my favorite kite for riding the last few weeks until this weekend: I had to share it with my wife: Jamie. Since we only have 1 of 10m HP Nemesis HP 2009 at the moment and Jamie has liken it so much since she first tested it in Cabarete in July, now that is the only kite she will ride (well besides the 13m 2009 Waroo and soon the 9m Waroo 2009: she has not tried the 2009 Waroo 9m yet :-).
Wishing I will be riding on the 10m HP 2009, I reluctantly pumped up the 13m Waroo 2009 as the wind at Arroyo Laguna seemed to be light on the inside about 10 to 12mph. The condition was just perfect for the 10m HP: light 10-12 mph wind on the inside with nice right hander waves and 16mph plus on the outside. After a few mega huge air jumps on the 13m Waroo 2009, I went in and pumped up the 9m Waroo 2009 to test it. I could have riden the 13m Waroo 2009 all afternoon long but I decided it is time to test the 9m Waroo for its low end performance. I set up this 9m Waroo 2009 with AC setting (my favorite setting for 2009 10m HP). Wow, this 9m Waroo is SUPER FUN!!! It has the sweet, smoothness feeling, verylight bar pressure in comparing to Naish Helix 9m or Cabrinha 10m SwitchBlade or Cabrinha 9m Xbow, fast and XTREMELY STABLE but precise. I ended up having so much fun ripping around on surfboard and throwing tricks on the twintips all weekend long on this 9m Waroo 2009 just like I was on the 10m HP 2009. When the wind got lighter on the inside, that is when I really WISH I was kiting with the 10m HP! Other than that, I was a happy boy with the 9m Waroo 2009 and having a blast kiting with Jamie, my wife

    Kinsley,
Thanks again for letting me test out the new BEST Kites. I tried the 2009 Waroo 13M, Waroo 9M, and the HP Nemesis 10M. All three are fantastic kites. Of the three my eventual favorite was the 10M Nemesis. The Nemesis can be adjusted for speed on the back lines, once I found the setting I enjoyed (AB) riding on the third knot, I really enjoyed the kite. The difference in setting can be huge so many riders with different likes and dislikes can adjust the kite to their individual needs. The kite turns very fast on the tip and also moves through the window smoothly. I loved the power and upwind ability. Great kite, I weigh 180 lbs ride a Underground 128 board. No problems with the Upper Teen wind we were riding. I also enjoyed riding the 9M Waroo. Incredibly smooth kite unfortunately due to my weight I need a little more kite so that is why I liked the 10M better. As for the 13M wow the amount of power that kite has is amazing. Riding in light wind (13-15 Knots) I was fully powered and jumping. Again very fast for a larger kite and incredible upwind. I was making X's crossing with people in the water and we were going the same direction! Anyway thanks again

THANKS Kinsley for coming out and letting me try out those three new awesome kites. I spoke with many other riders that tried them and they were definitely super stoked as well. My personal favorite has to be the 10m Nemesis, mostly because I am a 1-kite quiver kind of guy and this one fits the bill for most of my riding spots. It is just the kite I have been looking for with great low-end, rock-solid, incredibly stable, and ridiculously fast and fast turning. Like the other two kites, it has three settings for turning speed adjustment and every rider should try them all out to see what setting they like best in what conditions. I also really liked the two 09 Waroos, which I would buy for a 2 or 3-kite quiver. With my 180 lb, the 9m Waroo is the perfect high-wind kite but with the wind hardly blowing more than the low 20's yesterday, I was impressed with how quickly it got me going and how much boost it provided for jumps. The 13m Waroo feels as if you are pulled behind a boat. Unbelievable power, great up-wind ability, and still the fastest turning 13m I ever rode. It's a great kite for those low-wind days or a perfect allround kite for many spots in SoCal. The only downside to trying the new kites ... I have to put up with my old gear until they are available :)
