Cabarete - Dominican Repulbic - Kiteboarding essential information:

  • Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced. There are plenty of beaches and they could be crowded with kiteboarders during the peak of season like: April through August
  • Surface Conditions:Wind Chop and Shore break Waves. There are waves riding at Encuentro.
  • Wind Conditions: Good for 7m to 12m on normal day, light wind day in off season months: December and January: 13m to 16m kites. Normal wind direction is Starboard (blows from right to left)
  • Season: All Year around but the best months for kiteboarding are March through September. September month might not be consistant as it is hurricane season.
  • Water Temp: Board shorts will be good. Rashguards to protect your skin. Shorties during offseason
  • Air Temp: 28 - 35 C.
  • Nearest Town: Puerto Plate - POP

Summary: We have been visiting Cabarete - Dominican Repulbic for many years! We like Cabarete for its nice smooth wind, delicious seafood. Cabarete used to be nice, quiet, inexpensive but as of this year: it is becoming more expensive, crowded, and lots of crime, petty thieves. Be extra careful now as one of the girl got robbed in mid daylight while taking pictures just around the corner of kitebeach.
Transportation: From POP, take a taxi $20USD to your hotel

You can also santo Domingo airport - 2 hours by car or taxi to Cabarete.
Summer time: May through September. Busy time in Cabarete is all year around as kiteboarders visit Cabarete all year round.
National language: Spanish but English is understood in larger hotels and airline companies.
Currency:Dominincan Peso. Money can be exchanged at at the airport and bank. Best way to get Peso is using ATM machines which is widely available.
Credit cards are accepted in all places: good hotels, shops and restaurants.
